Development of technological tools for monitoring tailings


This interdisciplinary project aims to develop technological tools for real time monitoring of tailings. The main results will be the design and implementation of an early warning systems for tailings, including the influx of information from the raw data acquition by sensors, until the generation of alerts for autorities, communities and mining industries.

The project is supported by the Chilean Ministry of Economy, Corfo, Antofagasta Minerals, Codelco, BHP Billiton and the National Program Minería Alta Ley. In the project participates: The Chilean National Service of Geology and Mining (Sernageomin), the General Directorate of Water (DGA), the Superintendency of the Environment (SMA), the National Mining Society (Sonami) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.


Start date: 2016-12-20, End date: 2021-12-19.
